4H Extension Program Leader Saratoga County 4-H
Greg Stevens visited the Club to provide an update on what the Saratoga County’s 4-H Club is doing. Over the years, 4-H has changed. As youth have more activities available to them, the clubs have shrunk in size. Saratoga County currently has 40 clubs, 579 members, 219 adult volunteers and they reach over 12,000 students via their school outreach programs.
4-H is still focused on Citizenship, Nutrition and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and often Arts). In order to stay relevant and change with the times, 4-H is offering groups focused on robotics, rocketry, drones, veterinary science, as well as the more traditional clubs for animal husbandry, etc. Additionally, they offer outings for club members, such as to Capital Day in Albany and a trip to Washington, DC.
Fun fact – it takes an entire month to set up and take down the 4-H exhibits at the Saratoga County Fair each year!
