BHBL High School – leadership/diversity/community-building training
Jeff Reynolds is a social studies teacher at BHBL HS who conducts special leadership programs that involve upper class students and all the ninth graders. NCBI (www.ncbi.org) is a national program designed to help students understand issues related to diversity. He will discuss where the program was when he arrived as a teacher at BHBL, how it has grown based on students’ interests and energies, the establishment of our Freshman Diversity Day and the request by students to get more specified, intensive training on issues related to tolerance, positive communication, community-building, conflict resolution and informed, honest, respectful discussion and debate. One or two students will also attend to give their perspective on why this training is beneficial to them and, by virtue of being facilitators at our freshman event, why it is beneficial to the school community as a whole.
