This annual club fundraiser is now held the morning of the second Saturday in June. Its purpose is to raise funds for the Jenny Pennington Scholarship given to a select BHBL High School student continuing college studies in the Education Field, as well as other educational related charitable initiatives. The event is held at the 9-hole Galway Golf Course. Participants pay a reasonable fee for nine holes of golf, lunch, liquid refreshments and free door prizes. Small voluntary fees are also levied for mulligans and a putting contest. The event concludes with lunch and awards for various competitions and prizes.

There are varied tasks required in preparation for the event. They follow:

  • Preparation should start in April
  • Create a sign up form
    • The registration form is a two-sided trifold form, similar to those employed by other organizations.
    • Who has done in past?
    • Copy of last year–s form?
  • Coordinate of date, time and cost for the Galway Golf Course with course owner George Wedikind, 882-9104 or  598-3644
    • The event is currently planned for the 9-hole course with only a single foursome starting per hole.
    • More participants would entail starting more than one group per hole, with attendant extension of playing time, meal schedules, tables, chairs and food, rain cover, etc.
    • Alternatively, the event would need to be planned for an 18-hole course.
  • Acquire tee sponsors, sponsor tee signs, door prize sponsors and recruit players and teams
  • Coordinate with the store manager of our past major sponsor, the Glenville Hannaford, for lunch items and drinks. They have donated all in the past.
  • Coordinate with the West Charlton Fire Department for three long tables and 32 chairs
  • Obtain volunteers and a truck for transportation of tables and chairs for pick up and movement the day before the event, and return immediately thereafter. Have historically given the fire department $50 for there use.
  • Acquire three coolers from Rotarians for drinks and also ice, all to be in-place and loaded for the event
  • Acquire Rotary volunteers for set up, collection of money, posting of scores and event breakdown.
  • Movement of the tables and chairs is best handled with a pickup truck or a van with an 8′ bed.
  • The registration form is a two-sided trifold form, similar to those employed by other organizations.
  • Several picnic coolers are borrowed for beverages and perishable food items.
  • Present awards and prizes
